Motion + Media Research Symposium

This one day symposium brings together artists, scientists and researchers from diverse backgrounds and disciplines to share their creative work with emerging media. Sponsored by University of Minnesota Duluth, Motion + Media Across Disciplines Lab. Featuring Keynote by Dave Beck “The Convergence of History & Environment through Games & Animation” and Elizabeth LaPensée, Indigenous Game Designer, Research for Indigenous Community Health Center. Research Topics to include: Motion Capture, Virtual Reality, Interactive Environments, and Video Production. Open to students, faculty and the public by RSVP / Advance registration. Free lunch for those who pre-register.

David Bowen’s Tele-present Water

This installation by David Bowen draws information from the intensity and movement of the water in a remote location. Wave data is being collected in real-time from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration data buoy Station 46246 (49°59’7″ N 145°5’20” W) on the Pacific Ocean. The wave intensity and frequency is scaled and transferred to the mechanical grid structure installed at The National Museum in Wroclaw, Poland. The result was a simulation of the physical effects caused by the movement of water from this distant location.

Ars Electronica Futurelab

Ars Electronica Futurelab focuses on the future at the nexus of art, technology and society. We consider our works as sketches of possible future scenarios in art-based, experimental forms. In this way, we are aiming at developing contributions through methods and strategies of applied science, the results of which reveal new knowledge and experiences of societal relevance in art and science. The lab’s team bases its work commitment upon transdisciplinary research and work which results in a variety of different disciplines at the lab. Our range of services concentrates on expertise developed throughout the years in fields such as media art, architecture, design, interactive exhibitions, virtual reality and real-time graphics.
